Maxwell continued his education in Great Britain where he studied Chemical Engineering at the University of Manchester and obtained his doctorate in the specialization at the University of Cambridge.
The future president of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago in practice mastered everything connected with prospecting, extraction and oil refining. From 1957 to 1965 Richard was holding a number of leading positions in the company «Shell Trinidad Ltd.» and he also was lecturing chemical engineering at the University of the West Indies. From that time till November, 1996 the scientist`s life and activity were connected with this University: he served as Head of the Department of Chemical Engineering, Pro-Vice Chancellor and then as its Chancellor.
On March 13, 2003 the professor was elected President of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago.

However, he has not yet managed to stop increase of crime (robberies, kidnapping, e-terrorism, etc.).
