    Views

Looking at economic systems from a ‘designer’s point of view’, regarding the economic mechanism as the unknown of the problem rather than a datum, the problem being to construct mechanisms satisfying specified desiderata (e.g. informational decentralisation, efficiency, individual rationality). Constructing formal models useful in analysing and designing economic systems. Formulating rigorous definitions of informational decentralisation and incentive-compatibility.

Using the framework of noncooperative game theory to study the incentive-compatibility properties of economic mechanisms. Results on stability of competitive equilibrium (with K. J. Arrow and H. D. Block), programming in infinite-dimensional

spaces, least squares bias in autoregressive time series. Analysis of the concept of causality.
