Toto Cutugno was born in Fosdinovo, Tuscany, to a Sicilian father and a Tuscan mother. Shortly after his birth the family moved to La Spezia (Liguria).

Toto Cutugno was born in Fosdinovo, Tuscany, to a Sicilian father and a Tuscan mother. Shortly after his birth the family moved to La Spezia (Liguria).
He began his musical career as a drummer, playing the percussion instruments as a member of local music groups till the age of nineteen, when he understands, that the province life is too tight for him.
In 1976, Cutugno participated for the first time in the Sanremo Music Festival coming up with third place with his band Albatross. Since then Toto became a consistent participant of the festival (15 appearances, won the first prize in 1980).
His last work, entitled “Portrait”, was released on November 30, 2010 and contains 55 rare songs.
In 1975 Toto, who for some years has started to write for himself, achieves a stunning success as a composer in France, where one of his songs “Indian Summer” was recorded by Joe Dassin. Very soon it will become an international hit.
In 1977 the “Albatross” takes part in Sanremo Music Festival again representing a new song, written by Toto, “Grand Prix”, that comes fifth.
In 1978 his creative activity takes a an important turning-point, having left the “Albatross” Toto presents him to the world as an author and a singer with a song “A Woman, My Women”, that becomes a soundtrack for a TV show of a presenter Mike Bongiorno “Let’s Bet On”. Toto goes up the stair of the hit parade and writes his first song for Adriano Celentano entitled “Alone”.
In 1979 Toto records his first long play “I Want the Soul”, the songs from the album are performed successfully by different singers either Italian, or foreign ones.
In 1983 he released his most known work - album "L'italiano".
Despite the fact, that the peak of his popularity has been passed, Toto still travels around the world making concerts of great success.
