John Gray was also interested in collecting stamps. Gray was interested in postage stamps around the world. In 1861 he published the first forerunner of today's catalog of postage stamps entitled «Hand Catalogue of Postage Stamps» . For his contribution to the development of philately John Gray was honored to be mentioned as one of the "Fathers of Philately" in the "List of famous philatelists."
