In 1964 finished 11 classes at Lida comprehensive school
№ 10.
In 1965 he entered Belarusian Institute of Theatre and Art, the drama
department , and graduated from it in 1970.
He worked as a carpenter at Lida integrated industrial plant (1964 -
1965). He worked at the studio "Belarusfilm" as an assistant director, second director (1970-76). He
served in the Soviet Army (1972 - 1973). His had postgraduate studies at the
Institute of Arts, Ethnography and Folklore of the Academy of Sciences of
Belarus, special subject "Dramatical Art" (1976 - 1979). He defended
his thesis on "The Belarusian Drama of World War II. Evolution of artistic
principles in understanding of the heroic characters" (1981), his doctoral
thesis on "Dramatical Art of Belarus: problems of interpretation of
national history" (1991). Junior scientific officer (1979), scientific secretary (1981), the head of the
Dramatical department at the Institute of Arts, Ethnography and Folklore of the
Academy of Sciences of Belarus (1988).
Starts with articles on the dramatic critics in 1966. Writes articles, essays, reviews
on problems of modern dramatical art in Belarus. The first article "The
Heroes Live Forever" was printed on 04.01.1965 in Lida district newspaper
"Vperiod". Since 1966, has publications in national and union
publications: newspapers "Krasnaya smena", "Sovetskaya
Belorussia", "Gudok", "Sovietskaya Kultura". As a
critic and a publicist appears in magazines "Teatralnaya zhizn",
"Plamya", "Belarus", "Iskusstvo Belarusi" in
collections and collective monographs. Studies the issues of dramatic life of the country ("On Stage
- Immortality of the Deed", "Noted by the Time: the Search for the
Modern Belarusian Direction", "Creation of Fate: the Historic and
Heroic Revolutionary Theme in the Theatre of Belarus 70-80's.", etc.)
Author of "The History of the Belarusian Theater" (v. 2, 3). He
played in the drama. In collaboration with J. Sohar wrote plays "The
run" (was put on the stage in 1973-76 of folk theatres in Tsimkovichy, Slonim and Baranovichi),
"Atonement" (staged in 1976 in Yelsk Folk Theatre), "Not only
about love" (staged in 1978 in Mogilev Regional Drama and Comedy Theater
named after Dunin-Martsinkevich). Author of radioplays set on the Belarusian
radio: "No Other Right" (1978), "We'll live" (1978),
"On the threshold of life" (1980, co-authored with Yury Sohar),
"The fate that we choose" ( 1986). Made scripts for documentary
films: "Maria" (1975), "Through all the life" (1978, about
E. Mirovich), "Vladislau Galubok" (1982), "Crying for Life"
(1984, about B. Krylovich). In 1978-86 was the author and presenter of the
television anthology "In the footlights" on Belarusian television.
