Was the chairman of the Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission (PAEC), the Vice Chairman of the International Atomic Energy Agency Board of Governors. Parvez Butt is currently holds the position of assistant professor of nuclear engineering at the Pakistan Institute of Engineering and Applied Sciences, and also serves as a "Science and Technology" member at the Planning Commission of Pakistan.
Education
After his graduation from University of Engineering and Technology, Butt was employed in Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission (PAEC), was awarded the PAEC scholarship in 1964 and fled to Canada, where he was enrolled in Engineering School of the University of Toronto.
Career
After his graduation, Butt was employed in Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission (PAEC) in 1963 as "Principle Engineer". He was involved in the design, installation, operation and maintenance of the Karachi Nuclear Power Plant (KANUPP) from the very beginning of the project in 1965. From 1965 to 1970 he worked in the design office of Canadian General Electric, Peterborough, Ontario. Canada. In 1971 Parvez Butt took part in the elaboration of the nuclear weapons design and manufacture program. In 1974, Parvez Butt was part of the PAEC team that had designed and built the Pakistan Atomic Research Reactor (PARR-II). Parvez Butt also played an important role in designing neutron particle accelerator at PARR-II. He also designed the chasma nuclear power plant. Butt was actively involved in Pakistan's civilian nuclear program. He, along with other Pakistani nuclear scientists, visited People's Republic of China in 1986 to led an Civilian Nuclear Technology agreement between Pakistan and People's Republic of China. Mr. Butt has been an active member of the Board of Governors of WANO (World Association of Nuclear Operators), MNA (World Nuclear Association) and the IAEA (International Atomic Energy Agency). In 2004-05, he was elected as the Vice Chairman of the IAEA Board of Governors. In April 2006, Mr. Butt was appointed the Federal Secretary, Ministry of science & Technology, Government of Pakistan, from where he retired in April 2008
