Göran Hägglund has been engaged in politics since his youth. First he was actively taking part in the activities of the the Christian Democratic Youth, then became a member of the Christian Democratic Party, where he held several positions. He has also worked in insurance and bank sectors. In 1991 he was elected to parliament and also became leader of the Christian Democratic parliamentary group. In the early years, he worked on economic and business policy issues as a member of the Economic Committee and an alternate member of the Finance Committee. After the 2002 election, he became chairman of the Housing Committee. In 2004 Göran was elected to be the Christian Democratic party chairman. He also works at the Christian Democratic Party Executive and the party's executive committee. In 2006 he was appointed Minister for Social Affairs and after elections in 2010 reappointed to this position.
Christian Democrates' motto is "For a more humane Sweden" and party's program advocates family support policies, better life for children and pensioners, development of health system, reducing unemployment, creating of new companies, guarantee security, charity, favoring immigration, provide foreign aid to underdeveloped countries and environmentally friendly policies.
