Career
Former student of economics and mathematics at Dauphine and Nanterre, he decided to do a PhD at MIT when he realizes that, although he was in DES, there was a lot of "holes" in its knowledge. He received his doctorate (PhD) in economics at MIT in 1977 under the direction of Stanley Fischer. After his PhD, he taught at Harvard, as "Assitant professor" from 1977 to 1981 as "Associate professor" from 1981 to 1983. In 1983, he left to teach at MIT, as "assistant professor" until 1985, as "teacher" thereafter. There was Director of the Department of Economics from 1998 to 2003. He was a member of the Council of Economic Advisers from 1997 to 2008, with the former French Prime Minister, Lionel Jospin. Olivier Blanchard is a board member of the Econometric Society and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. He was also vice president of the largest association of economists in North America, the American Economic Association. He served as an economic adviser to several countries and national and international organizations such as the European Economic Policy Forum Panel . He is an adviser to the Fed in Boston and New York Fed. It is since 2006 member of the Scientific Council of the Paris School of Economics.
