Melo decided to abandon the last two seasons at Syracuse and exercised the right to run for the 2012 NBA Draft.In June 28, 2012 Fab was chosen by 22-th number in the NBA draft 2012 in "Boston Celtics." On July 3, 2012, Melo signed a contract with the Celtics. On July 5, 2012 the Boston Celtics announced that Melo was added to their roster for the 2012 Orlando Pro Summer League and the 2012 NBA Summer League.On November 14, 2012, Melo was assigned to the NBA D-League
