It is known that Malin was training to be a teacher before the forming of "Ace of Base", but quit to pursue a career of a singer. Although according to an interview given by Ulf Ekberg on 20 June 2006, Malin returned to the University after she had left the band.
During the promotion for "Ace of Base"'s first album, Linn was the principal lead vocalist for the majority of the singles and was generally the main focus in the videos, but from 1997 onwards her appearence in the videos, during the concerts and in the public reduced significantly. Her scarce performance in the band is surrounded by rumours regarding the reasons for the odd behaviour. Members of the band explained Malin's absence very inconsistently throughout the years and no official explanation had been given to the public. On 30 November 2007, Ulf Ekberg stated in an interview that Malin Berggren had left the band and she would not be featured on the band's new album. The group had already been performing mostly without Linn as a trio for a solid decade before her departure.
