Career
Edman participated in the European Championship finals in Portugal in 2004 and in the World Cup 2006th. He first came up in Helsingborg IF and turned pro in Italian Torino in 1999. For the first time he was unsuccessful and returned home to Sweden . Erik Edman started playing for AIK. In 2001 he was purchased by SC Heerenveen and the same time, he was considered to play for the national team.
Edman's efforts in the national team and Heerenveen made a breakthrough for his career. In 2004 Erik Edman was bought by English Tottenham Hotspur. During the season 2004/2005 in Tottenham, he became famous for his stunning goal, which he scored from 38.17 yards out, in the Premier League match against Liverpool in April 2005. On 15 november 2004, Erik Edman was awarded as Swedish Defender of the Year. Wigan Athletic paid £ 500 000 for Edman who came from Stade Rennais Football Club (France). In February 2010, he returned home to Sweden, and then back to the HIF. Edman signed a five-year contract with the Swedish club. The HIF gained the direct result from this transfer. The team won the silver medal in 2010 and then reached even greater heights. The following year was a good year for Scanians with Edman in a natural leadership role. In 2011 Erik Edman won his first, and only, national championship.
With 133 premier league matches and lots of games as a professional in Heerenveen, Tottenham, Rennes and Wigan, so ended Erik Edman, 34 years old, his great career.
