Anil Kumble is a highest wicket-taker for Indiain ODIs and Tests, best bowling figure in India; he was an international cricketer and captain of the Indian cricket team. Kumble is one of only two bowlers who have ever taken all 10 wickets in a Test innings; only the second player scored 2000 runs and took over 500 Test wickets; Wisden Cricketer of the Year 1996.

The surname of Anil's family originates from the Kumbla village located in Kerala.
Anil was born on 17th of October 1970 in Bangal, Karnataka. Kumble was not only one child in the family, he grew with his brother Dinesh. As a hirteen-year-old child he joined a Cricket Club named Young Cricketers. He brilliantly finished Bachelor in Mechanical Engineering from Rashtreeya Vidyalaya College of Engineering in 1991-1992.
Now he is married to Chethana Ramatheertha and has two children: a son Mayas (born in 2004) and a daughter Svasti. Anil also has a step-daughter Aaruni (the daughter of the first Chethana's husband).
Education
During Kumble's study at Rashtreeya Vidyalaya College of Engineering he was an excellent student. Anil received a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering when he graduated from it.
Career
Kumble started to play for Karnataka team with a match against Hyderabad in 1989 where he took 4 wickets in the match. However, his debut in the international cricket was a little later. Anil made it in the ODI Cricket with the Australasia Cup tournament at Sharjah in a match against Sri Lanka in 1990.
His Test Cricket career began with a Test Series against England played at Manchester in August 1990. Anil took 3 wickets and gave 105 runs in 43 overs out of which 7 were maiden ones. Then Anil didn't play any Tests for two years. In 1992 during Indian tour of South Africa Kumble took eight wickets in the second Test. Later that year he took 21 wickets in three Tests and picked up seven wickets for 165 runs in the third Test of the series played at Mumbai. Kumble took his first 50 Test wickets in 10 matches.
On 27 November 1993 Anil achieved an Indian record when he took six wickets for 12 runs in an ODI against the West Indies at Eden Gardens, Calcutta in the final of the Hero Cup.
In 1996 he claimed 61 ODI wickets at an average of 20.24. By that time Anil became one of the leading wicket takers of his country, that's why he was selected in the Indian side for the 1996 Cricket World Cup. There he played seven matches and was the leading wicket taker in the tournament with 15 wickets at an average of 18.73. India played their first match against Kenya where Kumble took three for 28 runs and helped to win the match. In the quarter final phase India layed against Pakistan and won the match again. Unfortunately in the semi final India lost to Sri Lanka.
In February 1997 Kumble picked up 19 wickets, averaging 30.31 with the ball in a series of five tests and four ODIs. In
1998 when Australia visited India he picked up 23 wickets in 3 test matches at the average of 18.26.
By 2004 Kumble became India's highest wicket taker.
In the India-West Indies series of 2006, Kumble took 6–78 in the second innings of the final Test in Sabina Park, Jamaica, and brought India a historic series win.
On 8 November 2007 Kumble was appointed as the captain of the Indian Test cricket team.
In November 2008 he injured the finger of left hand and couldn't play cricket as great as it was before. Kumble announced his retirement from International test cricket, First class cricket, and list A cricket on 2 November 2008.
After his retirement from all international and first-class cricket Kumble captained the Bangalore Royal Challengers in the Indian Premier League and left this position in January 2013.
