Oscar Fernandes is an India politician, a senior Indian National Congress leader and AICC General Secretary. He was the Minister of State of the Ministry of Labour and Employment in Dr. Manmohan Singh's first UPA government in India.
Background
Born on 27th of March, 1941, Oscar Fernandes was one of 12 children in his family, and grew up with a strong Catholic background. His family belongs to the Fernandes-Prabhu clan, a Mangalorean Catholic clan from Udyavara in Udupi district.
Career
He was previously elected from this home city of Udupi, in Karnataka. Later he joined the Rajya Sabha. As union minister in UPA government he gave some bold statements. In a statement recently he said that the killing of CEO of a company in Greater Noida should be a warning to the management and criticized the dismissal of the laborers who allegedly did the crime.
