Background
When she was eleven, her family moved to the Marche. Her father was the manager of a glass factory. When the girl turned 15, she worked at her father's factory. There Rina was raped by a man ten years older than her. Aleramo didn't tell her parents about this event but had to marry this man and gave birth to her only child, Walter.
In 1901 she moved to Rome and thus left her son and her husband. All these events Sibilla described in her first book.
For some years Aleramo had a relationship with a writer and journalist. It was he, who influenced Rina Faccio to take on the pseudonym Sibilla Aleramo.
In 1906 "Una Donna'("A woman"), her book was published. Two years later Aleramo began her lesbian partnership with Cordula "Lina" Poletti. After one year they broke up. Their relations were told by Sibilla in her novel " l passaggio"("The Crossing, "1919).
