Adriaan Ligtenberg is a Founding Partner of PTP, and a General Partner in PTP Fund I. Dr. Ligtenberg has over 25 years of experience in creating, building, operating and exiting successful technology enterprises.
Education
Dr. Ligtenberg graduated from Delft University in 1980 with a degree in electrical engineering, and received his Ph.D. in computer science from The University of Lausanne in 1983. Dr. Ligtenberg has been involved in the entrepreneurship programs at both Stanford Graduate School of Business and Keio University in Tokyo.
Career
He began his career at Bell Laboratories, where he led the Image System Group that played a key role in defining the JPEG and MPEG standards. Dr. Ligtenberg relocated to Silicon Valley in 1989, where he became a successful serial entrepreneur, first co-founding C-Cube Microsystems and later Storm Technology, both of which achieved successful initial public offerings.
He was subsequently founder and president of A3-Ventures, a corporate consulting and investment firm, and advised Philips Electronics in its strategic restructuring around a growth and spin-out strategy. In 1998, he joined Cadence Design Systems as Senior VP in charge of worldwide services and R&D to help turn around the company. He subsequently co-founded and served as CEO and later chairman of Takumi Technologies, a Design for Manufacturing company, and was a co-founder of BMEYE, a medical device company which was acquired through an MBO from a major Dutch research organization.
Dr. Ligtenberg was also an early member of the Band of Angels, and a limited partner in August Capital, IT-Farm and Point-One Ventures.
