Career
From 1882 to 1910 CouéCoue was an apothecary, but in 1901 he began to study the psychology of suggestion and hypnotism with A. A. LiébaultLiebault and H. Bernheim and made a profession of psychotherapeutical healings. In 1910 he opened a clinic at Nancy, where he proceeded to apply his psychological method of healing by helping others to heal themselves. Self-help was a fundamental of his technique, typified by his formula, "Every day in every way I am getting better and better," which the patient repeated over and over to himself. He lectured in both England and the United States on his method of treatment through autosuggestion, attracting enormous audiences in both countries. CouéCoue was the author of a number of books, including Self-mastery Through Conscious Autosuggestion.
