FINLAY, Robert Bannatyne was born on July 11, 1842. Son of Win. Finlay, Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians, Edinburgh, and Ann Bannatyne.
Studied at Edinburgh Academy, and University, Honourable Doctor of Laws Graduated in medicine at Edinburgh University. Doctor of Laws.
Called to Bar, November 1867. Bencher of the Middle Temple. Member of Parliament Inverness Burghs, 1885-1892, 1895-1906.
Solicitor-General, 1895-1900. Lord Rector of Edinburgh, 1902-1903. Attorney-General, 1900-1900. P.C., King’s Counsel, D.L.; Member of Parliament (Unionist) Edinburgh and St.; Andrews Universities since 1910.
In 1916, Finlay became Lord Chancellor in Lloyd George's coalition government, being at the same time created Baron Finlay, of Nairn in the County of Nairn.
