GURVICH, Aleksandr was born in 1874.
1897 graduate Medical Faculty, Munich University.
Until 1905 worked at Strasbourg and Berne University. 1906-1918 professor of histology, Saint St. Petersburg (Petrograd) Higher Women's Courses. 1918-1924 professor of histology, Crimean University, Simferopol’.
1924-1929 professor of histology, 1st Moscow University. 1930-1945 head Department of Experimental Biology, All-Union Institute of Experimental Medical 1945-1948 director, Institute of Experimental Biology, Union of the Soviet Socialist Republics Academy of Medical Sciences.
Specialized in embryology, histophysiology, biophysics and theoretical biology. Developed important hypotheses on the restorative processes (regulation) of the ovum after centrifuging and on standardization and determination as important modes of embryonic development. Did major research on the causes of cell division and its mechanisms.
1923 discovered weak ultraviolet radiation as a by-product of exothermic (mainly ferment) reactions, which play an important role in the vital activity of organisms. The discovery of mitogenetic radiation led him to research in the new field of "mitogenetics,” the study of molecular phenomena in biological processes. Devised "physiological theory of protoplasm,” which views protoplasm as a structured process and sees an extreme dynamic quality in all phenomena of life.
Expanded these concepts into a "biological field” theory which attributes all basic vital phenomena to a complex interrelationship between the elements of an organism and the organism as a whole. Considered the source of the ’’biological field” to be the chromatinc synthesizing process. In late 1920's and early 1930's his ideas were criticized as being "reactionary and mystical,” and he was considered to be an extreme proponent of ’’vitalism”.
Religion stops people thinking in a logical and reasonable way.
Marxism–Leninism as the only truth could not, by its very nature, become outdated.
