From 1887 lecturer, Saint St. Petersburg Institute of Transport Engineer. From 1896 professor, Moscow Engineer College (now Moscow Institute of Rail Transport Engineer). Designed a number of economics, light bridges with new type of girders (spanning the Rivers Narva, Western Bug, Volkhov, Oka, Amur, Yenisey, Zeya, etc).
Pioneered design of railroad bridges. His graphic-analytical methods of calculation and his lines of influence theory (covering the influence of mobile loads) provided the basis for late 19th-Century changes in the methods of calculating bridge girders. Compiled special “factor tables” for practical calculations.
