Captain, Russian Army. From July 1918 in Red Army. During 1918-1920 Civil War commanded regt, then brigade on Eastern, Southern and Southwestern Fronts.
1923-1931 department head, then chief, Operations Board, Red Army Staff. Commander and comissar, infantry corps.
Deputy chief of staff of Red Army. Wrote several works on military history and military theory.
