This is the report presented by the Department of Justice released to the public. It contains the finding by the special counsel, Robert S. Mueller III, on the interference of the Russian government in the 2016 United States presidential election.
Robert Mueller is an American government official and lawyer who was the sixth Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation. He also served as special counsel to the Department of Justice investigation into possible Russian interference in the United States presidential election of 2016.

Robert Mueller was born on August 7, 1944, in New York City, but grew up in Princeton, New Jersey. He is a son of Robert Swan Mueller, Jr. and Alice C. Truesdale. Mueller also has four younger sisters.
Education
Robert Mueller attended Princeton Country Day School, now known as Princeton Day School. Later, he went on to study at St. Paul's School in Concord, New Hampshire. Then, Mueller entered Princeton University where he received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Politics. He also studied at New York University from 1966 to 1967 and received a Master of Arts degree in International Relations. In 1973 he received a Juris Doctor degree from the University of Virginia School of Law.
Robert Mueller joined the United States Marine Corps in 1968. He served as an officer for three years, leading a rifle platoon of the Third Marine Division in Vietnam. Mueller ended his military service in 1971. In 1973, he took up the job as a litigator at the firm Pillsbury, Madison & Sutro, in San Francisco. He held this post until 1976.
In 1976, Robert Mueller became an assistant United States Attorney for the District of Northern California. In 1980, he became chief of the unit of special prosecutions, and, in 1981, he was promoted to chief of the criminal division. The following year he relocated to Boston to work as chief of the criminal division with the United States Attorney's Office for the District of Massachusetts. There he worked on numerous cases involving financial fraud, international money laundering, corruption, narcotics and even terrorism. In 1986 Mueller became a United States Attorney for the District of Massachusetts and, the following year, he took up the post of deputy United States Attorney for the District of Massachusetts. He held this post until 1988.
Robert Mueller served as a partner at the law firm Hill & Barlow from 1988 to 1989. In 1989, he became an assistant to the Attorney General for criminal matters at the United States Department of Justice. One year later he was appointed the United States Assistant Attorney General for the Criminal Division. He led the prosecution of Panamanian dictator, Manuel Noriega, the Lockerbie bombing case and then went to form a unit dedicated to cybersecurity. In 1993, Mueller joined the law firm Hale and Dorr as a partner. Robert Mueller returned to public service in 1995, when he became senior litigator in the homicide section of the District of Columbia United States Attorney's Office.
From 1998 to 2001, Robert Mueller worked as the United States Attorney for the Northern District of California. On July 5, 2001, then-president George W. Bush nominated Mueller for the position of Federal Bureau of Investigation director. He assumed office as the sixth Federal Bureau of Investigation director on September 4, 2001. Mueller decided to reorganize the bureau. He installed high-tech global operations created to tackle terrorist threats and insisted on expanding the surveillance system. President Barack Obama offered him to extend his ten-year term by another two years in 2011. Mueller gladly accepted the offer and the Senate approved this request on July 27, 2011.
After completing his service with the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Robert Mueller served as a professor and lecturer at Stanford University from 2013 to 2014. He also returned to the company WilmerHale as a partner in 2014 and oversaw important cases, such as the NFL's controversial suspension of player Ray Rice over domestic abuse charges. On May 17, 2017, Robert Mueller was appointed as special counsel to investigate Russia's involvement in any kind of manipulation of the 2016 presidential election results and possible links to President Donald Trump.
Robert Mueller is an American lawyer and government official, known as former Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation. He also made an investigation devoted to Russian interference in the 2016 United States presidential election and related matters. Mueller has been listed as a noteworthy Federal Bureau of Investigation Director by Marquis Who's Who.
