Armais Aristogesovich AKOVBYAN

Armais AKOVBYAN, USSR Dermatologist and venerologist. Professor 1942; Doctor of Medicine Science since 1937; Head, Chair of Skin and Venereal Diseases, Tashkent Medicine Institute, since 1943; Honoured Worker of Science of Uzbekistan Soviet Socialist Republic since 1960; Chief Venerologist, Uzbekistan Ministry of Health.

    • 1926 graduated Medical Faculty, Turkestan University.

    Career

    • 1935-1937 Candidate of Medical Science. Member, Editor Council, journal “Dermatologiya i venerologiya” (Dermatology and Venerology). Chairman, Uzbek and Tashkent Dermatological Society.

      Board member, All-Union Society of Dermatologists. Developed specific immunotherapy with serum and streptobacillus vaccine for patients suffering from soft chancre. First in USSR to use serum of immunized animals in therapy of soft chancre.

      Successfully uses hypnotic suggestion treatment for psoriasis, eczema, neurodermitis, nettle-rash and scaly eczema. First in USSR to study and describe “pruritis aestivalis” in Central Asia. Works deal with dermatology and venerology, especially with soft chancre, syphilis, “lupus erythematosus, tuberculous lymphadenitis, pruritic dermatosis, bladderwort, etc.

      1926-1930 intern, 1930-1933 Assistant, 1933-1942 lecturer, Dermovenerological Clinic, Turkestan University.
