BETEKHTIN, Anatoliy was born in 1897 in village Strigino, now Vologda Oblast.
1924 graduated Leningrad Mining Institute.
Mineralogist; Professor 1937. Doctor of Geology and Mineralogical Science since 1937. Full member, USSR Academy of Science, since 1953.
Professor, Moscow Institute of Non-Ferrous Metals and Gold, since 1949. Professor, Chair of Mineral Resources, Leningrad Mining Institute. Director, Laboratory of Mineralography, Institute of Ore Deposit Geology, Petrography, Mineralogy and Geochemistry, USSR Academy of Science, since 1937.
Science consultant, Ural and Kola Branches, USSR Academy of Science. Chief Editor, journal “Geologiya rudnykh mestorozdeniy” (The Geology of Ore Deposits), since 1958. 1929-1946 studied Chiatura and other manganese deposits.
1930-1936 did research on Ural and Caucasian chromite deposits. 1937-1940 edition and contributor, several major USSR Academy of Science publications. 1941-1944 at Commission for the Mobilization of Raw Materials for Defense and in charge of manganese prospecting operations carried out by Committee Geology Affairs and industrial organ, of Popular Commissariat for Ferrous Metallurgy.
1946 elected corresponding member, USSR Academy of Science. 1946-1948 consultant, geological operations in Czechoslovakia, German Democratic Republic and Poland. 1955 member, USSR Academy of Science delegate advising and lecturing on ore-formation problems in China.
1956 at International Geology Congress, Mexico. Member, Editor Board, journal “Doklady Akademii Nauk USSR” (Reports of the USSR Academy of Science), since 1960. Developed methods of studying platinum ores in polished section by reflected light.
Established study of mineralography of USSR ore deposits. Devised theory of processes from which the laws governing the formation of ores are derived. 1923-1928 mining geologist, Nizhniy Tagil Board, “Ural platina” Trust, “Krasny Ural” (Red Ural) Mine.
1928-1929 senior Assistant, Chair of Mineralogy, Leningrad Mining Institute. 1939-1942 Deputy Director, Institute of Geology Science, USSR Academy of Science. 1953-1955 Head,Department of Ore Deposits, Institute of Geology Science, USSR Academy of Science.
