Izrail GELFAND, USSR Mathematician. Doctor of Physico-Mathematical Science since 1940; Professor, Moscow University, since 1943; corresponding member, USSR Academy of Science, since 1953; associate, Mathematical Institute, USSR Academy of Science, since 1939. Stalin Prize,1951.
GELFAND, Izrail was born in 1913 in Krasnye Okny, Odessa Oblast.
1932 instructor, Moscow University. Since 1943 has specialized in the theory of unitary infinite-dimensional representations of contmuous series. His doctor’s thesis dealt with his theory of normalized rings, i. e., linear normalized spaces whose elements can be multiplied in the usual manner.
Has written over 80 works.
Religion is bad because it gets people to believe something untrue.
