Vartan GULKANYAN, USSR Selectionist and geneticist. Full member, Armenian Agriculture Science, since 1944; Head, Laboratory of Tissue Proteins, Institute of Biochemistry, Ukrainia Academy of Sciences, since 1950; Honoured Worker of Science of Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic since 1956. Stalin Prize, 1952. Member, Communist Party, since 1940.

      1959 member, Commission for the Coordination of Cancer Research. Research on biochemistry of muscular activity. Works on methods of preparing highly purified and crystalline tissue proteins, and studies their functional interrelations during metabolism.
