Since religion offers a complete set of answers to the problems of purpose, morality, origins, or science, it discourages exploration of those areas by suppressing curiosity, denies its followers a broader perspective, and prevents social, moral and scientific progress.
Boris KONSTANTINOV, USSR Physicist. Professor, since 1947; Doctor of Physico-Mathematical Science; full member, USSR Academy of Science, since 1960; Director, Physicotechn. Institute, USSR Academy of Science, since 1958; Professor, Leningrad Polytechn. Institute, since 1947; Chief Editor, “Zhumal tekhnicheskoy fiziki” (Journal of Technical Physics), since 1958; Rector University of Science Knowledge for Teachers, since 1961.
1953-1960 corresponding member, USSR Academy of Science. 1934 developed quantative theory of air-screw sound. 1936 research into equations for nonlinear acoustics.
1935-1943 studied self-oscillating phenomena in the processes of sound formation in musical instruments and acoustic signalling apparatus and developed a theory for these phenomena. Studied phenomena of viscosity and thermal conductivity on diffusion and absorption of sound in organic media, irregular waves in tubes, hollow absorption, etc. Principal works deal with theoretical and applied acoustics and physical chemistry.
