Marian KOVAL, USSR Composer. Honoured Artist Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic since 1947 and Lithuanian Soviet Socialist Republic since 1954; Artistic Director, Pyatnitsky Russia State Choir, since 1957; board member, Russian Soviet Federated Socialist Republic Union of Composers. Stalin Prize, 1943. Member, Communist Party, since 1940.

    • 1921-1925 piano class, Petrograd Musical Technicum. 1925-1930 composition class, Moscow Conservatory.

    Career

    • 1925 helped organize and run “Prokoll” group of young composers, formed by students from Faculty of Composition, Moscow Conservatory. Late 1920's composed vocal cycles devoted to Revolution. 1929-1931 member, Russ.Assoc, of Proletarian Musicians (“Ramp*’).

      1948-1952 Editor, journal “Sovetskaya muzyka” (Soviet Music). 1948-1958 Seer, and board member, USSR Union of Composers. 1958-1960 Deputy Chairman, Organizing Committee, Russian Soviet Federated Socialist Republic Union of Composers.
