1923 graduated Moscow Higher Technology School.
1924-1927 experimented on adsorption of electrolytes on cellulose and insoluble crystals. 1929-1932 set up 1st Soviet Artifical Fibers Laboratory at L. D. Karpov PhysicoChemical Institute, Moscow. 1931 set up laboratory for research into high-molecular compounds at All-Union Leather Industry Institute.
For many years member, Science and Technology Council, USSR Minister of Food Industry, and member, Commission of Experts, AllUnion Certifying Commission. Member, Editorial Board, “Kolloidny zhurnal” (Colloids Journal). Main works deal with lyophilic (mainly hydrophilic) colloids and highmolecular compounds (gelatins, proteins, carbohydrates).
Practical work deals mainly with textile industrial, dyeing and processing of fiber stuffs, theory of gel-formation, swelling and syneresis of gels. 1924-1927 at Chemical Laboratory, 1st Moscow Cotton-Printing Plant. 1927-1929 at Central Laboratory, Ivanovo-Voznesensk Textile Trust, and lecturer, Ivanovo-Voznesensk Polytechn.
Institute; 1929-1932 head of a laboratory, L. D. Karpov Physico-Chemical Institute, Moscow. 1931-1934 instructor, 1934-1941 Professor, Moscow Institute of Light Industry. 1938-1941 staff member, Colloidal and Electrochemical Institute, USSR Academy of Science.
1941-1944 V.-President, Belarusian Academy of Sciences. During World War П organized Belarusian Academy of Sciences, transferred to Tashkent.
