Karl OZOLIN, Government and Party official; First Deputy Chairman, Presidium, Latvia Supreme Soviet, 1959-1961. Order of Lenin; Order of Red Banner of Labor; Order of Red Star; Order of Red Banner; medals. Member, Communist Party, since 1926.

Education

  • 1948 graduated Higher Party School, Central Committee of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union.

Career

  • While still at gymnasium began underground Communist activity. 1927 arrested and sentenced to 3 years imprisonment. 1930 Secretary, Riga Underground Committee, Communist Party (Bolsheviks) Latvia.

    1931 rearrested and sentenced to 6 years hard labor. 1942 organized partisan movement in rear of German troops in Latvia and published newspaper “Za rodinu” (For the Homeland). Deputy, Latvia Supreme Soviet of 1951, 1955 and 1959 convocation.

    Deputy, USSR Supreme Soviet of 1954 and 1958 convocation. Until 1961 member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party Lithuania Latvia. 1956-1961 member, Communist Party of the Soviet Union Central Auditing Commission.

    Delegation at 1959 Communist Party of the Soviet Union Congress. 1940, after occupation of Latvia by Soviet troops, Editor, newspaper “Cina”, organ of Central Committee, Communist Party Latvia. 1941-1945 in Soviet Army.

    Since 1944 Seer, for Personnel, Central Committee, Communist Party Latvia, then Editor, newspaper “Cina”. 1951-1952 Deputy Chairman, 1952-1959 Chairman, Presidium, Latvia Supreme Soviet. 1954-1959 Deputy Chairman, Presidium, USSR Supreme Soviet.
