Director,Department of Parasitology and Medicine Zoology, Institute of Epidemiology and Microbiology, USSR Academy of Medical Science, since 1946. Honoured Worker of Science Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic since 1935, and of Tadzhikistan Soviet Socialist Republic since 1943.

      1908-1912 on science missions in Algiers and Tunis. 1912 Master of Zoology. 1918-1919 directed campaign against typhus epidemic in Russia.

      1921 was the first in USSR to teach parasitology as special subject. 1955 founded Committee on Medicine Geography, Presidium, All-Union Geography Society. Led more than 160 medical expeditions to Central Asia, Siberia, Crimea, Transcaucasus, Far East and other regions of USSR to combat tick-borne relapsing typhus, tick-borne encephalitis, mosquito fever, malaria, leishmaniasis, typhus and other parasitic infections.

      Since 1951 honorary member, Tadzhikistan Academy of Sciences. Since 1959 member, Sorbonne University, and full member, Polish Academy of Sciences and other foreign institutes and society. Since 1952 Chairman, USSR Parasitological and Entomological Society, and President, USSR Geography Society.

      Member, Learned Council, USSR Ministry of Health. Chairman, Parasitological Society in Malaria Commission of Zoological Institute, USSR Academy of Science. Со-Editor, “Bolshaya meditsinskaya entsiklopediya” (Large Medical Encyclopedia), 2nd edition, and other science publications.

      Deputy, USSR Supreme Soviet of 1946, 1950, 1954 and 1958 convocation. Deputy, Russian Soviet Federated Socialist Republic Supreme Soviet of 1959 convocation. Works deal mainly with poisonous animals, enteroprotazoan and worm invasions, parasite cenosis, regional and landscape parasitology, cycles of parasite development, fauna of bloodsucking insects and methods of combatting them.

      1908-1913 associate, 1913-1918 lecturer, Chair of Zoology, St. Petersburg Military Medicine Academy. 1921-1931 Professor, Leningrad Military Medicine Academy, then Director, Parasitology Department, Zoological Institute, USSR Academy of Science. 1933-1944 Head,Department of Parasitology, All-Union Institute of Experimental Medicine, Leningrad.

      1933-1951 simultaneously directed Dept, of Parasitology, Tadzhikistan Branch, USSR Academy of Science.
