Graduated Kiev Institute of Public Education and Kiev Medicine Institute. 1932 completed postgrad, course at Ukrainia Academy of Sciences.
1922 entered Communist Youth League. Was seer, of a rural Party organization. Worked as teacher; since 1932 senior associate, Ukrainia Academy of Sciences.
1934 appointed Director, Shevchenko Institute of Literature, Ukrainia Academy of Sciences. During Yezhov purges accused of “bourgeois nationalism” and sent to labor camp. Reappeared after 1956 Communist Party of the Soviet Union Congress.
Has written several studies on hist, of Ukrainia, Russ, and Polish literature, and general literature criticism. Recently engaged in study of national characteristics of Ukrainia literature, especially in works of Shevchenko, and national artistic and aesthetic traditions in Ukrainia Soviet literature.
