Andrey SHTOGARENKO, USSR Composer. Director, Kiev Conservatory, since 1954; Honoured Art Worker of Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic since 1947; board member, Ukrainia Union of Composers, since 1940. Order of Lenin, 1960; Order of Red Banner, 1948; two medals. Member, Communist Party, since 1944.

    • 1916 graduated Yekaterinoslav School of Music. 1936 graduated composition class, Kharkov Conservatory.

    Career

    • During Civil War performed in accordian ensemble. 1921-1927 singing instructor, at schools in Yekaterinoslav, now Dnepropetrovsk. 1926-1930 organizer and Artistic Director, of first Ukrainia Communist Youth League Accordian Ensemble.

      1941-1945 Chief Secretary, Turkmenistan Union of Composers. 1947-1956 Deputy Chairman, Ukrainia Union of Composers. 1948-1957 Secretary, USSR Union of Composers.
