Moteyus SHUMAUSKAS, Chairman, Lithuania Council of Ministers, since 1956. Member since 1941 and Bureau member since 1954, Central Committee, Communist Party Lithuania; candidate member of the Central Committee, Communist Party of the Soviet Union, since 1956. Member, Communist Party, since 1924.

Career

  • Until 1940 led Communist underground movement in Lithuania. 1931 sentenced to six years’ hard labor. 1939 sent to concentration camp.

    1940, after occupation of Lithuania by the Soviet Army, became Deputy, Lithuania Popular Sejm. Deputy, Lithuania Supreme Soviet of all convocation. Deputy, USSR Supreme Soviet of 1946, 1950, 1954 and 1958 convocation.

    1954 member, Budget Commission, Soviet of the Union, USSR Supreme Soviet. 1956 member, Commission for Examining Amendments and Additions to Draft Directives of 1956 Communist Party of the Soviet Union Congress. 1957 headed Lithuania delegation jubilee session of Ukrainia Supreme Soviet marking 300th anniversary of unification between Ukrainia and Russia.

    Since 1922 in printing house. 1940-1943 Deputy Chairman, Lithuania Council of Popular Commissar. 1943-1944 helped organize partisan movement in Lithuania.

    1950-1953 First Secretary, Shyaulyay Rayon Committee, Communist Party Lithuania. 1953-1954 Deputy Chairman, Lithuania Council of Ministers. 1954-1956 Second Secretary, Central Committee, Communist Party Lithuania.
