  • TIMOSHENKO, Semen was born in 1895 in village Furmanka, USSR (now Odessa)

  • Education

    • 1922 completed Higher Military Academy Courses. 1927 graduated Advanced Training Courses for Officers. 1930 graduated Commissar- Commanders’ Courses, Military Political Academy.


    • Since 1915 private, then non-commissioned officer in Tsarist cavalry. Since 1918 in Red Army. Platoon commander, then commander of squadron, regiment, corps and division, in Budenny’s 1st Cavalry Army.

      After Civil war division commander. 1933-1935 Deputy Commander, Belarusian Military District. 1935-1937 Deputy Commander, Kiev Military District.

      1937-1939 Commander, North Caucasian, then Kharkov and s. February 1938 Kiev Military District. 1939 during Soviet-Polish War Commander, Ukrainia Front.

      1939-1940 during Soviet-Finnish War Commander, Northwestern Front. 1940 to July 1941 USSR Popular Commissar of Defense. 1939-1952 member of the Central Committee, All-Union Communist Party (Bolsheviks).

      During World War Deputy Popular Commissar of Defense and Commander in Chief, Western and Southwestern Flanks, then s. August 1942 Staff representative of Supreme Commander in Chief for Troop Movement Coordination. 1943 Commander in Chief, Northwestern Front and Troop Movement Coordinator, Second and Third Ukrainia Fronts and Black Sea Fleet.

      After World War II Commander, Baranovichi and South Ural Military District. Then until 1960 Commander, Belarusian Military District. Until 1960 member and Bureau member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party Lithuania Belarusian.

      Deputy, USSR Supreme Soviet of all convocation. Voting delegation at 1959 Communist Party of the Soviet Union Congress.
