    • 1917 with Red Guard, patricipated in October Revolution. During Civil War commanded cavalry brigade, Budenny’s 1st Cavalry Army. 1920-1921 helped suppress Kronshtadt and Antonov revolts.

      . since 1923 commanded: cavalry brigade, cavalry division then cavalry corps. 1938 Deputy Inspector of Cavalry, Red Army. At outbreak of WWII as Colonel-General commanded troops on Southern.

      Front; since 1942 Commander, Transcaucasian Front and later Transcaucasian Military District. After the war member, military counc., various military distr. Then staff member, USSR Minister of Defense.

      Until 1952 candidate member of the Central Committee, All-Union Communist Party (Bolsheviks). Deputy, USSR Supreme Soviet of 1946 convocation. 1959 headed Soviet War Veterans’ Committee delegation Czechoslovakia.
