Boris YEGOROV, USSR Neurosurgeon. Professor; Doctor of Medicine; full member, USSR Academy of Medical Science, since 1953; Director, N. N. Burdenko Institute of Neurosurgery, USSR Academy of Medical Science, since 1947; Honoured Worker of Science Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic since 1958. Order of Lenin; Order of Red Banner of Labor; Order of Red Star; medals. Member, Communist Party, since 1952.

    • 1928 helped found Neurosurgical Clinic, later reorganized into Institute of Neurosurgery. 1941-1945 helped found neurosurgical depts. at front and rear military hospitals. 1948-1953 corresponding member, Academy, of Medical Science.

      Member, Learned Medicine and Technology Council, USSR Ministry of Health. Chairman, All-Union and Moscow Science Society of Neurosurgery. Member, Society for the Dissemination of Science and Political Knowledge.

      Editor, journal “Voprosy neyrokhirurgii” (Problems of Neurosurgery). Со-Editor, “Surgery” section, “Bolshaya meditsinskaya entsiklopediya” (Large Medical Encyclopedia), 2nd edition. Works deal with surgery of the brain and nervous system, and with a number of his own surgical methods and modifications of neurosurgical operations.

      1915-1916 military physician in Russia Army hospitals. 1916-1923 Chair of Operative Surgery and Topographical Anatomy, Medical Faculty, 1st Moscow University, and simultaneously at other surgical clinics. 1928-1941 Institute of Neurosurgery.

      1941-1947 Chief Neurosurgeon, USSR Ministry of Health. 1941-1943 simultaneously Director, Institute of Neurosurgery. 1957-1960 Academy Secretary,Department of Clinical Medicine, USSR Academy of Medical Science.
