1918-1920 on several expeditions studying infectious diseases in Central Asia and Caucasus. Conducted campaign against malaria in Azerbaydzhan. Studied regional pathology in Azerbaydzhan (malaria, leishmaniasis, ankylostomosis, worm invasions, amebiasis and other intestinal protozoan infections).
1923 worked on microbiology, immunology and infectious pathology. Pioneered diphtheria toxoid production and mass immunization of children in USSR. 1920-1922 founded Baku Institute of Microbiology and Hygiene.
1958 founded Rickettsiosis Dept, at Institute of Epidemiology and Microbiology, USSR Academy of Medical Science. Member, Editorial Board, “Bolshaya meditsinskaya entsiklopediya” (Large Medical Encyclopedia), 1st and 2nd edition. Co-Editor of its “Microbiology” section.
Со-Editor, journal “Voprosy virusologii” (Problems of Virology). Member, Editor Council, “Zhumal mikrobiologii, epidemiologii i immunobiologii” (Journal of Microbiology, Epidemiology and Immunology), etc. Works deal with various problems of microbiology and epidemiology, in particular, malaria, helminthiasis and tropical diseases of southern USSR, rickettsiosis, brucellosis, etc.
