Bryologist; swamp specialist and geobotanist; paleobotanist; Professor 1936; Doctor of Biological Science since 1937; full member, Ukrainia Academy of Sciences, since 1948; Professor, and Head, Chair of the Morphology and Systematics of Spore Plants, Kiev University, since 1936; Director, Institute of Botany, Ukrainia Academy of Sciences, since 1946.
Specialist in systematics, floristics and the science of swamps. 1939-1948 corresponding member, Ukrainia Academy of Sciences. 1949 Learned Secretary, Ukrainia Botanical Society.
Member of following expeditions: to Northern Ukrainia and the Caucasus (1926, 1927, 1928, 1937). To Altay Mountains (1940). To Southern and Western Ural area (1941-1943).
Specimens collected by Zerov are in the Institute of Botany, Ukrainia Academy of Sciences. His bryological works deal with sphagnums and Hepaticae of the Ukrainia, the Caucasus and the Far East. Studied hist, of USSR flora and plant phylogeny.
