Since the early 1960s I have written on many topics in economics that have attracted my attention: Sraffa, methodology, Walras, racial discrimination, immigration, Edgeworth, Pigou, philanthropy, and so on. These fit broadly into two categories: history of economic thought, and welfare economics. My most influential publication so far has been Altruism and Economy: in retrospect my work on race, housing and discrimination in the 1970s may be seen as the reverse side of that coin.
Although I hope my work is technically competent, I have also tried to stress the political economy of economics, e.g. in my early pamphlet The New Right: A Critique. My interests continue to lie in enriching the assumptions we make in our analysis of human action.
