Nicolaus August Ludwig Jacob JOHANNSEN
Nicolaus August Ludwig Jacob JOHANNSEN, German economist.
JOHANNSEN, Nicolaus August Ludwig Jacob was born in 1844 in Germany.
German-American economic ‘crank’ whose theories were taken seriously by Hobson, Mitchell and other unorthodox economists. His earlier works were pseudonymous but the Neglected Point.. appeared under his own name, and argued that depressions were caused by an ‘impaired’ form of savings. His subsequent works put forward various methods by which depressions might be avoided, including a form of taxed currency similar to Gesell’s stamped money.
