Russian economist and statistician whose work on agricultural statistics included the devising of the
so-called ‘peasant indices’ of the products bought and sold by farmers. He was one of the authors of the first Soviet five-year plan for agriculture. His analysis of the phenomenon of ‘longcycles’ (or as he called them, ‘longwaves’) is the work with which his name is most usually associated.
Coming into conflict with official policies on the question of planning he was imprisoned and died at some unknown date in the 1930s. Founder, Director, Moscow Business Conditions Institute, Institution, 1920-1928.
