LAUGHLIN, James Laurence was born in 1850 in United States of America.
As the founder of the Chicago department, he made a major contribution to American economics as a teacher and colleague. His career included enthusiastic campaigning against the freesilver agitation and in favour of the federal reserve system. His publications chiefly concern monetary topics: Money, Credit and Prices is his major achievement in this field.
Taught at Harvard University and Cornell University, 1873-1892. Professor Political Economics, University Chicago, 1892-1916.
