Daniel RAYMOND, economist.
RAYMOND, Daniel was born in 1786 in Connecticut, United States of America.
First American author of formal treatise on political economy. He favoured an element of government intervention, particularly in the case of protective tariffs. On currency, he supported a gold-backed government issue, and strongly opposed the issue of bank notes by private banks.
He denounced slavery on both economic and moral grounds and, like many American writers, did not accept Malthus on population.
