Regis Francis Xavier Philbin was born in New York City and grew up in the South Bronx. Regis Philbin was the eldest son of Frank, was a marine, and his wife Florence Philbin. Regis Philbin was named after his father's alma mater, Regis High School, a Jesuit boys school in Manhattan. He was married twice. The first one to Kay Faylan from 1955-1968; the couple had two children, Amy (born in 1961) and Daniel (born in 1967). And the second one to Joy Senese in 1970, and they had two daughters, Joanna (born in 1973) and Jennifer (born in 1974).
Once his stint in the military ended, Philbin found work behind-the-scenes in radio and television. After doing some sports and news writing, he moved to on-camera work in the early 1960s.The first Philbin's own show called 'The Regis Philbin Show' in San Diego, California.Without money for a writing staff, Philbin began each show sharing his own observations and opinions, and engaging the audience. This led to an Emmy-winning Los Angeles show called Philbin's People in which Philbin and popular personalities discussed current issues.
Besides being a successful TV host, Philbin was also a game show host on a short-lived game show called 'The Neighbors' (1975), then hosted 'Almost Anything Goes' (1975). Despite both shows being failures, Philbin then hosted 'Who Wants to Be a Millionaire' (1999), which became one of the most popular shows on TV.
Besides being a TV personality, Philbin is also an author who has written two books: "I'm Only One Man!" and "Who Wants To Be Me?".
He is also a singer, in the style of a crooner, such as Frank Sinatra or Dean Martin.
It is known that Regis not so interested in modern information technologies and doesn't succeed in them. So, he was left indifferent by computers and the Internet though, Philbin with pleasure uses e-mail.
