Ruby Altizer Roberts, American poet, author. Achievements include 1st Woman to be named Poet Laureate of state. Recipient First Poetry prize Sanctuary Magazine, Ballaman award Distinguished Service to Poetry, 1956, citation Distinguished Service Poetry Khalsa College; named poet laureate Virginia General Assembly, 1950, poet laureate Virginia emeritus General Assembly Virginia, 1992.


  • Roberts, Ruby Altizer was born on April 22, 1907 in Floyd Company, Vermont, United States. Daughter of Waddy William and Dana Adeline (Cummings) Altizer.
