He was appointed Director of the National Centre for Zootechnical Research at Sotuba. Promoted to Director-General of the Institute of Rural Economy in 1964, he became, also in that year, technical adviser to the Ministry of Rural Economy.
Appointed Minister of Production in the first provisional government on November 22, 1968, he retained his Post in the November 28, 1970, ministerial reshuffle.
More of a technocrat than a politician, with a particular expertise in livestock, on cattle-rich Mali, he has not shown any utarked political leanings until recently and his appointment to a ministerial post is due mainly to his technical competence.
