Grew up in the town of Chudovo. Member of the Mir Iskusstva with whom he exhibited. Headed the enamel art school in Rostov, 1913-1917.
Chief artist at the State Porcelain Factory in Leningrad in the post-revolution years. Famous for his modernist designs. Emigrated in 1928. Many of his miniature portraits of friends are held in the Leningrad Museum of Artistic Culture.
