Joined the Bolshevik Party in 1917. Secretary of the Council of Peoples’ Commissars and Lenin’s private secretary from November 1917. Intermediary between the Soviet government and the members of the prerevolutionary Academy of Sciences, who were reluctant to work for the Bolsheviks.
Lenin’s right hand in matters of science. Occupied many executive positions at various scientific institutions. Academician, 1935. Secretary of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR, 1935.
Arrested in 1937 during the purges and disappeared, probably executed.
