Studied at the Petersburg Conservatory, 1911-1917. Graduated from high school and the Music School of Nizhnii Novgorod. Studied at the Petersburg Conservatory, 1911-1917. Pupil of S. Liapunov and M. Balakirev.
Entered Petersburg University. Also influenced by A. Glazunov. Lecturer and pianist in Novgorod from 1918.
Wrote songs for the People’s Conservatory, and later for the Glinka Conservatory in Gorkii. Professor from 1957. Conductor with Nizhnii Novgorod Symphony Orchestra, 1919. Director of the Technical School for Music, 1921-1923.
Worked for radio, 1922. Musical director of theatre productions. Composer for radio till 1936.
Followed the traditions of Mussorgskii, Borodin, and Rimskii-Korsakov, and was influenced by Skriabin in his instrumental music. Wrote operas and composed in various other genres.
