Joined the Bolshevik Party, 1920, and the Red Navy, 1921. Took part in the Civil War. Submarine officer in the 1930s and during World War II. Commander of the Novorossiisk naval base and the Danube fleet, 1944, and of the Caspian fleet, 1950.
Deputy Head of Military Training in the navy, 1953-1969. Later worked in the Ministry of Defence.
